Some of you will be aware that some CCGs have introduced a new BP DES requirement to be undertaken by PCNs and therefore GP surgeries.
The definition (posted by one such CCG) of this specific requirement is:
Improve diagnosis of patients with hypertension in line with NICE guideline NG136: - Ensure appropriate followup confirming / excluding hypertension diagnosis where blood pressure recording of ≥140/90mmHg in a GP practice - This includes proactive reviews of historic patient records to identify patients who have had a previous elevated blood pressure reading without appropriate diagnostic follow up.
It is worth noting that this falls in line with the supplementary requirement that practices improve coverage of blood pressure checks.
Media coverage this week highlights the distribution of 200,000 blood pressure monitors:
In light of this we have added this search to our Search Builder to enable practices to easily identify such patients and to optionally combine this search with any of our other searches.
